While being surrounded by love and prayers, Jane Marie Gillard passed away on Wednesday. She was the wife of the late Charles P. Gillard from Scranton.
Jane was born and raised in Mayfield, Pa. Her parents are the late Francis Salva and Irene Gryceski Salva.
Jane graduated from Lakeland High School and then graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. Jane worked as a pediatric nurse until she started her family.
When she left her role as a nurse, Jane became a caregiver, not just for her husband and children, but her parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She would be the first person anyone would call and Jane would be there in a heartbeat.
Jane was blessed with the beautiful talent to crochet. She made beautiful afghans, sweaters, hats, scarves, stuffed animals, anything her heart desired. Each of those gifts was like a hug from her.
When Jane would take a moment for herself, she was an avid reader. Jane loved her mystery novels. She had the uncanny ability to tune out noise around her and just focus on her book of the week.
Most importantly, Jane valued her faith in God and in the Catholic Church. She lived every day as a child of God, she shared love, compassion, and mercy to all. Jane was a valued member of Immaculate Conception Church in Scranton.
As time went on, Jane had the blessing to love and care for her four beautiful granddaughters: Hannah Marie Bachak, Maya Gillard, Zoe Gillard, and Shailyn Gillard.
Jane is also survived by her son, Patrick Gillard (Holland, Pa) , his wife Noel, her daughter Aimee Bachak (Jermyn,Pa), her husband Timothy Bachak; Her sister Lauren Weilage (Port St. Lucie, Fl) (Paul); Edwin Salva (Scott Township) (Carol), and her precious nieces and nephews.
Jane is preceded in death by her daughter Erin Marie Gillard, her husband Charles Patrick Gillard, and her brother Francis Salva Junior.
Kurt Vonnegut wrote, “You meet saints everywhere. They can be anywhere. They are people behaving decently in an indecent society.” Jane Gillard was most definitely a saint.
Our family would like to thank Allied Hospice for treating our mother with love and dignity.
We would also like to thank all the doctors and treatment teams at Geisinger CMC who provided care for her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9AM Saturday in the Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Avenue in Scranton. Burial to follow in Cathedral Cemetery in West Scranton. There is no public visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Allied Hospice.
Arrangements entrusted to the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc.
