Janet M. Dougherty, 82, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully Saturday at Marywood Heights. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Leo; and daughter, Kathleen.
Daughter of late Frank and Alice Burnham, Janet was a graduate of Dunmore High School and spent years working locally as a professional waitress, being known throughout the valley for her vibrant personality, fun-loving spirit and quick wit. She ended her working career as a manager for Gertrude Hawk Candies.
Janet will be remembered for her involvement in her community through the years and her devotion to helping others. She volunteered at Ronald McDonald House, March of Dimes, the Century Club, Pa. Association for the Blind and St. Joseph's Center.
Janet's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the caring and friendly staff at Holy Family Residence for their kindness and compassion.
Janet is survived by her sons, Patrick; and Brian and wife, Megan; grandchildren, Jennifer Gallagher and Bridget Whaley; stepgrandchildren, Rachael Pizano and Jeffrey Pry; seven great-grandchildren; two devoted nieces; and brother, JJ and wife, Carm Burnham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Dunmore. Interment to immediately follow in the parish cemetery.
