Jean V. Kveragas of Dunmore passed peacefully with family present on September 12, 2025.
Born in Birchardville, Susquehanna County, PA on November 7, 1925, she was the daughter of Rexford and Viola Wood Powers. Her husband, Stanley E. Kveragas, died in May 1972. Also preceding her in death were her siblings Betsy Small, Arletta Sechrist, Hilda Andrews and Duane, Ronald and Howard Powers.
She is survived by her children, Joseph and wife Terri of Dunmore, Michael and wife Connie of Dunmore, Melanie Konopka and husband Bart of The Villages, FL, Gary and wife Debbie of Dickson City, Cindy Funderburke and husband David of Warsaw, NC and David of Newton Township. As well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A resident of Dunmore for 80 years, she was a former member of the Borough Council and later worked in the Dunmore Tax Office until retirement. An active member and ardent supporter of the Dunmore VFW 3474 Ladies Auxiliary, she served as its Treasurer for many years.
Jean was a gifted person in a number of ways. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, and sewing (especially quilts, as gifts and fundraiser donations) throughout her long life. She was also an avid traveler, flea marketer, and country music fan. However, her real passion was doll collecting. She had an almost encyclopedic knowledge of everything dolls of which she had a large, wide, and varied collection.
Family and friends may call at Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore on Thursday from 5-7 PM. A Mass will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday at Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., Scranton. Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be sent to the VFW McHugh-Bushweller Post 3474, 110 Chestnut St., Dunmore, PA 18512 or to the charity of your choice.
