Jerome Kelly Obituary

Jerome D. Kelly, 71, of South Abington Twp., passed away Wednesday morning at home after a brief battle with esophageal cancer. He is survived by his wife, the former Cynthia Wynne. The couple would have celebrated 45 years of marriage in July.

He always said he had the best of both worlds having been born in Minooka and raised in the Notch. He was the son of the late Jerome and Helen Jeffers Kelly and was a graduate of the former Holy Rosary High School in North Scranton. He was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. Before retirement, he was a technician for Verizon.

He was a member of the Bell Golf League and the Northeast Detachment Marine Corps League. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer. He was proud of his Irish heritage and would help anyone in need. He was loved by all and will be missed.

Also surviving are his daughter, Katie Loughney and her husband, Matthew, Waverly; a granddaughter, Wynne Loughney; sister, Mary Beth Culkin, Clarks Summit; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Summa and Mary Jo Wynne, both of Dunmore; nieces, Eileen Culkin, Lauren and Joanna Summa; and nephews, John Culkin, Mark and Chris Summa; several cousins, friends; and his faithful dog, Sam.

The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William St., North Scranton. Those attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral.

Interment is private at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. A service with military honors will be held at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter; or the Vasculitis Foundation, P.O. Box 28660, Kansas City, MO 64188.
