John “Star” E. Kelly, 92, passed away on October 5th at Sacred Heart Hospice following an illness.
Born in Philadelphia on October 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Helena and John P Kelly. He was a graduate of the Scranton Preparatory School, the University of Scranton, the University of Pittsburgh, a US Army Veteran, a pharmacist for over 50 years, and a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore.
He loved corny jokes, Irish music, and was a proud member of the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Association of Lackawanna County for which he served as President in 1992 and Grand Marshall in 2003.
Survivors include sons John of Los Angeles and William of Frederick, Maryland, his brother James and wife Judy of Dunmore, nephews and nieces. His wife of 60 years, the former Anne Walker of Pittston, died in 2021.
The family is deeply thankful to the staffs of Glenmaura Senior Living, Sacred Heart Hospice, and friends for the care and prayers for him especially over the past several months.
A funeral mass will be scheduled at the family’s convenience.
