John (Jack) J. Tigue passed away peacefully Sunday morning at Hospice of Sacred Heart in Dunmore. His wife, the former Catherine “Kay” Kays passed away in 2013. The couple had been married for 54 years.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late William and Della Donahue Tigue, he was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Dunmore, attended Scranton Technical High School and was a graduate of the University of Scranton. He had a long career with Bell Telephone retiring after 37 years. He was a former board member of NET Federal Credit Union, and later spent many years working for FNCB bank. He was a veteran of the US Armed Services and served in the Korean Conflict.
Jack was an avid golfer and a long-time member of the Scranton Irish golf league. He was a proud man and “he could do anything he set his mind to”. Jack and Kay also enjoyed many years making annual trips to Saratoga Racetrack.
Also surviving are six sons, John Tigue, Dunmore, Patrick Tigue, Scranton, William Tigue, Dunmore, Robert Tigue and partner Renee, Scranton, Michael Tigue and wife Ali, of Dunmore, Christopher Tigue and partner Noelle, of Dunmore, one daughter Mari Donegan and husband Ian, Jacksonville FL. Three grandchildren Sabreena, Emma, and Michael Tigue, one great grandchild Gio Duran, and brother in-law Gene Telesco. Nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn McTague and Judy Brown, and one brother William Tigue.
The funeral will be Friday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St, Dunmore. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Josephs Center, 2010 Adams Ave, Scranton, PA 18509.
