John Arthur Veneski

John Arthur Veneski, 66, of Scranton, PA passed over unexpectedly Saturday, February 20th after a beautiful morning of skiing with his granddaughter Lennon and an enjoyable afternoon with some of his best friends Mac and Joe.  John was an amazing man who made a positive impression upon nearly everyone he met, welcoming them into his world without hesitation.  Whether you were his work colleague, a friend from college, motorcycling buddy, a close family member, or a complete stranger, he treated everyone the same.  His guidance, compassion and willingness to help at the drop of a dime is what created his legacy.  

Most importantly, John was a husband, father, brother and grandfather.  He cherished his years of retirement spending time with his family and close friends Tom and Rick.  While he loved them both, nothing matched the love he had for his granddaughter, Lennon, whom most of his loved ones have met or at least received a texted picture of before.  He recently took a cross country road trip with Shelley, the love of his life for almost 50 years, to visit his daughter Sarah in California.  It would be one of his most memorable trips, spending time with the two most important women in his life and adventuring through the landscapes on his motorcycle with Shelley holding on tightly behind him. He also cherished his visit with his dear Uncle Joe, who described John the best when he said, “John was a flashing beam of light in my life”.  

To his motorcycling buddies, he could never wait until the next two wheeled road trip.  He spent hours packing, repacking, and then packing again.  No trip was as memorable to him as those that he took with his best buddy and son Daniel.  

John was a pharmacist for over 30 years. He began his career at Sheeley’s Drug Store before spending many years at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, and most recently at Regional Hospital of Scranton, retiring in early 2019. The relationships he built during those years are long-lasting and he will be remembered fondly. 

While John’s life ended much too soon, it was full of light, laughter, and love.  

John is preceded in death by his father, John S. Veneski and his mother, Helen Veneski of Scranton, PA. His legacy will be carried on by his wife of 41 years, Shelley Rosenberg, his son, Daniel Veneski (Amanda) and their daughter, John’s best snuggler and biggest fan, Lennon Veneski (3) of Scranton, PA., his daughter Sarah Veneski of Lake Tahoe, California, his sisters Pat Hartman (Wesley) of Scranton, PA and Ellen Smith (Michael) of Mechanicsburg, PA, and several nephews, nieces, and loving family members. 

To honor John’s life, his family asks that any donations be made in his name to the Jewish Community Center of Scranton. No funeral services will be held at this time.
