John D. “Jay” Mumfreda, 84, died peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2021 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton.
Born May 17, 1937 in Scranton to the late Donato and Mildred Granito Mumfreda, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and went on to serve as a bomber in the United States Air Force. He had been employed at WICK Radio Station for many years, and later retired from the PA Liquor Control Board Manager at the Clarks Summit State Store. He loved music and attending stage shows and never missed a Broadway Theater Production or Philharmonic concert.
He is survived by his sister, Helen M. Moffitt and husband John G. of Dunmore; nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and several cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Crispino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore.
Interment with military honors to follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
There are no public calling hours.
All those attending mass are asked to go directly to the church and please wear a mask and observe Covid-19 protocol.
