Gary Hetsko, Sr., Jefferson Township, died peacefully Tuesday evening following a short illness. His wife is the former Jennie Bird.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Edward Joseph Hetsko and Evelyn Louise Wilson Hetsko and was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1962. Gary was a member of both Dunmore United Methodist Church and the Sons of American Legion Post 665 in Dickson City. Gary worked in the commercial tire business for over 60 years. Since 2004, he has owned and operated G. Hetsko Commercial Tire. He previously worked at Baboff Tire in Dickson City, Phillips Tire Co. and General Tire, both in Scranton.
Gary’s true wealth was in his relationships with his family and friends. Always there to lend an ear or offer help in any way he could. His interests were many including a passion for civil war history, Indy car racing, early rock and roll music including Eddie Cocharan, Ricky Nelson and his all-time favorite, Buddy Holly. He loved traveling the back roads of Northeast Pennsylvania and New York.
Also surviving are sons, Gary Hetsko Jr. and his wife Denise, Dallas, Eric Hetsko and his wife Tara, Scranton, and Scott Hetsko and his wife Jennifer, Rochester, NY, a daughter, Lisa Zawadzki, sisters, Cheryl Mason and her husband John, Gilbertsville, NY and Carol Ann Sweeney, Easton, PA, brothers, Dale Hetsko and his wife Mary Ellen, The Villages, FL, Rick Hetsko and his wife Kathy, Oberlin, OH, and Keith Hetsko and his wife Lisa, Jessup, nine grandchildren and one great grandson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward J. Hetsko Jr.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday July 9th from 4:00PM-6:00PM at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. A brief memorial service will begin at 6:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sons of American Legion Post 665 in Dickson City.
