John J. Vidota Sr., 82, Scranton, died Wednesday at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Joseph Stanley Sr. and Alice Boris Vidota, he attended Dunmore public schools and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War era, of which he was very proud. He had been a semi-professional boxer in his younger years and also enjoyed trips to the casino. He adored his family. His children were his pride and joy and he was supportive in every way, attending all of his grandchildren's functions.
Surviving are daughters, Wanda Nowell and husband, Eldon, Utah; and Alice Cleary and husband, Kevin, Scott Twp.; son, John J. Vidota Jr. and companion, Delores Fayocavitz, Scranton; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Pikulski and husband, Ken, Clarks Summit; brother, Edward Vidota Sr. and wife, Sandra, Scranton; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Zator; brother, Joseph S. Vidota Jr.; and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church, Scranton. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church. Interment to follow in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Cemetery, Davis Street, Scranton.
