John J. “Jack" Kuchak, Jr. Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the unexpected and tragic passing of John J. “Jack” Kuchak, Jr., 49, of Moosic and formerly of Dunmore on Sunday. He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Christina Scartelli. The couple had just celebrated 20 years of marriage on October 29th.

Born in Scranton, he is the son of Susan Kuchak and the late John J. Kuchak, Sr.  Jack was a 1995 graduate of his beloved Dunmore High School, where he was elected student body president and served as tri-captain of the 1994 Dunmore Bucks football team. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Moravian University in 1999, he spent two successful decades in medical device equipment sales, earning five President’s Club awards, building championship sales teams, and representing his company at a NASDAQ bellringing. Jack also served as chair of the Scranton Lions Club Dream Game, co-chair of St. Joseph’s Memorial Golf Tournament, and co-founder of a scholarship nonprofit helping students reach educational goals.

Jack spent many years coaching football at Dunmore High School and Pittston Area High School, where he left an impact on many players and built lifelong friendships. Jack was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and boating on Lake Wallenpaupack, at his family’s lake house “Kamp Kuchak”.  Jack was the life of the party and a friend to everyone, possessing the ability to connect with each person he met. Jack’s generosity knew no limits. He had a unique ability to make everyone around him feel welcome and loved, so many people refer to him as their “best friend”.  Jack’s personality was bigger than life and he stood by the motto “live hard or die trying”.

Jack’s greatest accomplishment was becoming a father to his beloved daughter Claire.  She was his world and the light of his life. He enjoyed spending time golfing and skiing with her, watching her dance, cheer, and tumble, helping her learn to ride her bike, and just having tickle time on the couch. His love of life will live on through her.

Also surviving are his sisters, Karen Hildebrandt and husband Hethe, Bel Air, MD and Michelle Lewis and husband Tom, Dunmore. Nieces, Cadie Lewis and Kylie Hildebrandt. Nephews, Tommy and Ryder Lewis. Aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Chestnut St. in Dunmore.
