John Joseph Guziewicz Obituary

John Joseph Guziewicz, 52, of Dunmore, died unexpectedly Saturday at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton.  He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ann Fuller.  The couple were married October 14, 2000.

Born in Scranton to Joseph and Marita Polster Guziewicz of Scranton, he was a graduate of Bishop O’Hara High School Class of 1989 and went on to attend Marywood University and Luzerne County Community College.  For many years, he was employed by Penn Foster as a customer service supervisor, and prior to that, had worked for Fox56.  Most recently, John was employed for United Concordia in the dental customer service department.  He was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore.

A sports enthusiast, he was a devoted follower of the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Penguins, Penn State Nittany Lions, and of NASCAR driver Chase Elliott.  He could often be spotted at local sporting events, and when he and his wife would travel, they liked to attend different games and races while on the road.  He also loved movies, especially Star Wars and the Marvel and DC Comics franchises.  John was a dedicated husband, and he and Mary Ann had fun traveling and dining out, particularly trying out new restaurants.  He enjoyed going to fairs, festivals, and amusement parks, and would accompany his wife on all of the different roller coasters, despite not being a fan of them. He was an avid reader who also liked playing games on his iPad and could also be found faithfully at Planet Fitness with Mary Ann.  Additionally, John had a passion for projects around the house and yard, pouring his heart into each one and taking immense pride in the results.  Even though he was his biggest critic, the love he put into his work showed, and Mary Ann could not have been more proud of him.

He will be missed by all who knew him, including his furbabies, cats Nugget, Cookie, Missy, and Annie.

In addition to his wife and parents, his is survived by his sister Terri Guziewicz of Scranton; and brothers Joseph Guziewicz and wife Angela of Newton, NJ; Christopher Guziewicz of Palmerton, PA; and Greg Guziewicz and wife Amy of Scranton; his mother-in-law Mary Russell Fuller of Dunmore; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Florence Spohrer Polster and Charles and Mary Zakrzewski Guziewicz; and father-in-law, Richard David Fuller.

The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith St., Dunmore.  Interment to follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Dunmore.
