John T. Pupalitis Obituary

John T. Pupalitis, 87, of the Bunker Hill section of Dunmore and for the past 3 years a resident of Greenridge Care Center in Scranton died peacefully Monday evening surrounded by his loving son and daughter in law. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Mary Riccardo Pupalitis. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past June.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Martin and Mary Pupalitis, he was educated in the Scranton Schools and was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore. He was a loving and caring husband, father, godfather, brother-in-law and uncle who was dedicated to his family.

He was drafted in 1957 to the United States Marines Corps and served 2 years. He was stationed as a Marine on the Navy’s USS Intrepid aircraft carrier.

He worked for Scranton Wiping Cloth for some 43 years. After retiring he worked in maintenance. John enjoyed puttering around his house, buying tools and gadgets. He loved to fix things especially with duct tape and his new favorite, gorilla tape. Most of all he loved to be with family and friends at any event or gathering to celebrate, while enjoying a cocktail

John was devoted to SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish and especially loved to help at St. Rocco's feast day every summer. He particularly enjoyed to be with the guys up St. Rocco's Church in preparing for an event or just getting together for the afternoon.

Surviving are a son, John Pupalitis Jr. and his wife, Christine, Dunmore, as well as numerous godchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters Helen Lenio and Marion Skiba, and three brothers, Alfred Popalitis, Francis Pupalitis, Martin Pupalitis.

His family would like to thank Dr. Salvatore Lawrence for his lifelong care of John before retirement and Dr. Nicholas Dodge for his recent care at Greenridge Health Care Center.

His family would also like to thank the nurses, aides, therapists, food staff, reception staff and activities staff at Greenridge Health Care Center for their compassion, dignity and respectful care.

The funeral will be Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM in St. Rocco's Church, Kurtz Street, Dunmore. Interment to follow in the Dunmore Cemetery.
