Joseph Scarfo, Sr. Obituary

Joseph M. Scarfo, Sr., 74, of Scranton, died Tuesday afternoon at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton after an illness. He and his loving wife, the former Catherine “Kate” O’Connor, celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Rocco R. Scarfo Sr. ‘Duke” and Grace Parola Scarfo, he attended West Scranton High School after of which lead to Managing Triple AAA Trousers in Scranton where he was employed for 30+ years, His tavern in West Scranton he owned with his wife Kate “Scarfo’s Cheers” and His partnership in a Tavern in South Scranton “Scarfo’s” cherishing the friendships and memories made along the way. He loved bowling, playing pool, enjoyed singing karaoke singer, and was a huge Steelers fan.  He enjoyed his quiet time at night with a couple of Budweisers. 

He was a true people person that could always make people laugh, and in spite of all the pain he endured, he never lost his sense of humor.  Joseph was the guiding light of the family, and would always protect them.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed more than words can say. 

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his devoted and beloved children, Rocco Scarfo of Scranton, Lorrie Scarfo and fiancée Ava of Virginia, and Michelle Scarfo of Scranton; grandchildren Zachary and Jeremy Seabridge,  Rocco Scarfo, Airiana Scarfo, and Thomas, Kyle, and Jaden Scarfo; his siblings Patrick Scarfo and wife Helen of Scranton, John Scarfo and wife Barbara of Carbondale, and Louise Fratzola Scarfo and companion Thomas J. Gazoo of Scranton; brother-in-law Al Horton of Scranton; sisters-in-law Maureen Scarfo of Scranton and Ann Scarfo of Canada; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his loving son Joseph M. Scarfo, Jr., in 2015; four brothers, Rocco, Ralph, Donnie Sr., and Geno Scarfo; and sister, Franny Horton. 

A blessing service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton., Carl J. Savino, Jr., Supervisor.  Friends may pay their respects from 12PM-2PM at the funeral home.
