Joseph Ventura, 78, of Tobyhanna, passed away Thursday at Allied Hospice with his family at his side.
Born in West Scranton, he was the son of the late Julius and Eleanor Trione Ventura. Joe was a graduate of West Scranton High and attended Lackawanna College. Joe ran Putt-n-Snack in Taylor before going into the Army. He was a devoted American and served as a sergeant in the United States Army. Our loving Joe fought in the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Later in life, Joe worked for Specialty Printers for many years before they closed. He was the proud owner of Margie’s Lunch in Keyser Valley for many years after taking over for his father, Julius. Joe loved to travel and spent time traveling everywhere with his friend, George Howard.
The family would like to thank Allied Hospice for their wonderful and compassionate care of Joe while in their care.
Surviving is Joe’s best friend, George Howard; sisters, Marge Patchoski and Judith Tugend and husband, Carl; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, James (Sonny).
A funeral service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave., West Scranton., Carl J. Savino Jr., supervisor. Interment to follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
