Joseph M. Occhipinti, a native Dunmorean, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday April 19th, in Las Vegas where he had been residing for the past twenty-five years.
Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Ruane Occhipinti. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran who served on board the USS Saratoga during the Korean Conflict. Prior to retirement, he was a driver for numerous trucking companies in both Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties. He was an avid walker and sports enthusiast, especially football.
Surviving is a daughter, Cindy Simrell and husband Jack of Moosic; a son Rick Occhipinti of Kingman, AZ; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Salvatore Occhipinti.
Private interment was in Dunmore Cemetery.
