Josephine M. Bernardi

Josephine M. Bernardi, 97, Scranton, died Saturday in Allied Services Hospice in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Carl “Chick” Bernardi who died in 1994.

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Victoria Casterline Gillette and was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1942. Prior to retirement she worked in the local garment industry and was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

Josephine was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who loved her family very much. She loved cooking for her family and friends.

Surviving is a son Anthony Bernardi and his wife Marion Smith, Scranton, two grandsons, Anthony Bernardi, Jr. and his wife Olivia, and Jeffrey Mando and his wife Nadine, great grandsons, Evan, Owen, and Gwen Bernardi, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Josephine was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Ann Bernardi Mando, brothers Jim, Anthony, and Daniel Gillette, and sisters, Rose Cistola and Carmel Meyers.

Her family wishes to thank Dr. Boccagno, the staff at GCMC Emergency Room and PCU for the wonderful care provided. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Madden at GCMC as well as the staff, nurses, and chaplain at Allied Services Hospice Center and St. Mary’s Villa for the care and compassion provided to Josephine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10AM in Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church, 316 William Street in Scranton. Interment, Mount Carmel Cemetery in Dunmore.
