On Saturday, March 15th, our beloved Judy went to rest with God and her mother and father.
Judy was the eldest daughter of the late Andrew and Judy Laboranti Marichak, and was a loving wife, mother, nana, and sister. She was educated in Scranton schools and graduated with a degree in Library Science from Marywood University. She was a retired librarian who had worked at Honesdale High School from 1988 to 2018. Judy loved to ride her Peloton, read, and do crossword puzzles. She could be seen Monday through Friday walking up Delaware Street and down Electric Street with her sister Mary, while both pushed Judy’s two grandchildren in their strollers. You could also see her walking weeknights or weekend mornings, taking the same route with her cousin Trish. She also enjoyed running Lake Scranton with her good friend, Marybeth.
Most of all, Judy loved taking care of her four grandchildren, Tyana, Cillian, Kaia, and Cade. Whether it was going to Tyana’s dance recitals, swimming in her backyard, playing games, walking around the block, or just reading a story, Judy was always there for her grandchildren. She loved being with her family, whether it was Friday nights at her sister Jean’s for pizza, summers with her family and friends at Ocean City, or in September with her two sisters also at Ocean City.
Judy is survived by her husband of 40 years, David; her children Nick (Mariah) and Alison Curnow (Harry); her four grandchildren whom she adored, Tyana, Cillian, Kaia, and Cade; her sister Mary and brother Andrew Marichak, her sister Jean Pethick (Kevin), her brother John (Kelly), and brother Michael (Jennifer). Also, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As my four-year-old grandson Cillian would say when he was sad, “My heart is broken.” I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say that our hearts are broken. Judy was an organ donor to the Gift of Life organization.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton.
All those attending the mass are asked to go directly to the church that morning.
Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, West Scranton.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Scranton Public Library, 500 Vine St., Scranton, PA 18509.
