Karen A. Coleman, BSN

Karen A. Coleman, age 67, Dunmore, passed away peacefully Monday, November 28, 2022 after a brief illness.

She was born April 18, 1955, in Scranton, to the late Peter J. and Elizabeth (Betty) Buckley Coleman.  She was a 1973 graduate of Bishop O’Hara High School in Dunmore and went on to study at the University of Pittsburgh.  She earned her nursing degree at Wilkes University, Wilkes Barre, PA in 1979

Karen worked as a registered nurse in the Scranton area her entire career.  For many years she worked as the house supervisor at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton where she was involved all aspects of the residents care as well as staff training.  She cared very deeply for her patients and coworkers and will be profoundly missed.  

Karen truly lived life to the fullest, she loved spending time with family and friends and wouldn’t even think of missing a birthday or holiday gathering. She loved to travel and shared amazing pictures and stories from all over the world.  The only thing that compelled her to return from her trips were her beloved dogs Tucker, Duncan and Winnie, and Phoebe the ancient cat.

She is survived by her brother Bill Coleman, sister-in-law Ann Doherty, honorary nephews Pete and Steve Kearney, and niece Annie Doherty.  She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews, and her dear Aunt Janet and Uncle Ed Coleman.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by her brothers Peter (PJ) and Matt Coleman.

We want to thank all of the doctors, nurses and aids at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton for their phenomenal care and compassion.

A funeral service will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore. 

Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be private.
