Karen E. Boland, 63, of Dunmore, died Saturday, January 25th at home after an illness. She is survived by her husband, Timothy G. Boland. They would have celebrated 35 years of marriage next month.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Sauer Luchko, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1979 where she was active on its softball and cross-country teams. She went on to study at Marywood University where she attained her bachelor’s degree, and later her Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology. She had also been employed by the university, and was honored for 35 years of service.
Karen loved to travel. Her enthusiasm of history drew her to Gettysburg many times, and she loved going to visit lighthouses up and down the east coast with her husband, Tim, while visiting numerous microbreweries along the way. She also enjoyed their excursions to different beaches, but especially the Outer Banks and Long Beach Island. When at home, Karen could be found in her vegetable garden or taking a walk with her pup Sallie in tow.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister Mary Lou Zaustowicz and husband Ed of Throop; her brother, Joseph Luchko of Dunmore; sister-in-law Merianne Bienick and husband Bob of Dunmore; nieces and nephews David Zaustowicz, Tina Zaustowicz Lewis and husband David, and John, Mary, and Jacqueline Bienick.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday, February 5th at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, from 11 a.m. until noon, with a blessing service to be held at noon.
Interment, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
