Kathryn “Kay” Farris, 86, Dunmore, died Sunday morning in Geisinger–Community Medical Center in Scranton. She was the wife of the late Michael J. Farris, Sr. who died in 2018. They had been married for 60 years.
Born and raised in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Carey Derrig. Kay was a graduate of Dunmore High School and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. Prior to retirement she was employed at Specialty Records/ WEA Manufacturing.
Surviving are two sons, Michael J. Farris Jr. and his wife Carmel, Dunmore, and Thomas Farris and his wife Angela, Dickson City, three grandchildren, Kayla Rush and her husband Daire, Philadelphia, and Jessica and Casey Farris both of Dunmore, a great granddaughter, Maeve Rush and several nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was an amazing mom, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her. She spent her summers watching Phillies baseball and her Friday nights during the fall were spent attending the Dunmore Bucks Football games. Our hearts are broken and we will miss her at our table on family get togethers and holidays.
Her family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Geisinger-Community Medical Center 4th Floor, for the unbelievable care and compassion given to Kay during her time with them.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anita S. Lance and her husband James Lance who both died in 2012, a brother Patrick Derrig and three sisters, Alice Gregorski, Joan Froese, and her twin sister Marian Mallas Golay who died February 20th.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut Street in Dunmore. Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4-7pm at the funeral home.
