Laura Schmidt Obituary

Laura M. Schmidt, 95, of Moosic, formerly of Dunmore, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday evening surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Ralph D. Schmidt.

Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Genard and Laura Caterino Riccardo, she was a graduate of Dunmore High School and a devoted member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, godmother, sister, and aunt who was all about family. She was a wonderful cook who relished large family gatherings on holidays. One of her greatest joys was sharing her family’s Italian traditions and passing them on to the next generation.

She is survived by her sons: Gary and wife, Lu Ann, of Kingwood, Texas; Gregory and wife, Donna, of Raleigh, NC; Glenn and wife, Dahnielle, of Chester Springs, PA; and Geoffrey and wife, Dena, of Moscow. She is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer Schmidt, Kathryn Wright and husband, Alphie, Matthew Schmidt and wife, Sarah Katherine, Eric Schmidt and husband, Ryne Martinez, Ian Schmidt and fiancée, Bethany Hsiao, Addison, Payton, and Lucas Schmidt, as well as great-grandchildren Michael, Ethan, and Violet Schmidt and Isaiah Tucker, Benjamin, and Samuel Wright. She leaves behind sisters Ida Sciabarasi and husband, Vincent, of Caldwell, NJ and Grace Coggi, of Syracuse, NY, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Lucy Riccardo, Angela Spinuzza, Philomena Occhipinti, Olga Sacco, Jennie Ferrese, and Rose Mary Pupalitis, and her brother, Anthony Riccardo.

The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Alocci, the wonderful staff at Glenmaura Senior Living for their outstanding care and compassion, the great staff at Allied Services Hospice, as well as her excellent and compassionate caregivers: Jene, Abby, Alexis, and Jessica.
