Loretta "Laura" (Boland) Flanagan

Loretta (Laura) Flanagan, 97, Scranton and formerly of Dunmore, died Dec. 23rd in Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Robert R. Flanagan, who died in 2008.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Michael and Ellen (Nellie) Gately Boland, she was a graduate of St. Paul’s High School and the former Marywood College. She was a member of St. Clare and St. Paul’s Parishes in Scranton.

Loretta was steadfast in her Catholic faith and devotion to the Blessed Mother; she participated in various church ministries and groups throughout her life.

Her vocation as an educator included substitute teaching in the Scranton School District as well as teaching at Lackawanna Junior College and Bishop O’Hara High School. She completed her career as office manager in the School of Social Work at Marywood College.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to the staff members of St. Mary’s Villa Skilled Nursing and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the care and compassion provided to Loretta and her family.

Surviving are children James Flanagan and wife Sue, Robert Flanagan and wife Rebekah, Mary Ellen Flanagan, Laura Santoski and husband Robert, and Mary Beth Kowalski; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brother Timothy Boland; nieces and nephews.

She also was predeceased by siblings Margaret and John.

The funeral will take place Tuesday, January 16th, from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church, Penn Ave., Scranton.

Interment to follow in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday evening, January 15th, from 5-7 p.m.
