Louis P. Litterio, 80, of Dunmore passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning when he entered the gates of Heaven. His wife of 55 years, Elaine, passed away on April 19, 2024.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Sabino and Florence Simonetti Litterio. Lou graduated from Dunmore High School and attended the University of Scranton. He was also an Army veteran.
Prior to retirement, Lou was a postal clerk at the Scranton post office. In high school, Lou played baseball and basketball for his beloved Dunmore Bucks. He was an avid runner and walker. He and Elaine traveled to Marco Island, Florida and the Jersey Shore. He was also a great fan of the New York Yankees.
Having no children of his own, Lou was a second father to all his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, taking care of them and treating them as his own children. He will be missed by all of us who love him.
Lou is survived by his sister, Marie Masters; nieces and nephews Dr. James Masters, Mark Masters (Brenda), Sonya Masters, Sharon Kroll (Rick), Donna Wilson (John), Denise Silfee (Clarence), and Lisa Bender (Joseph); sister-in-law Gloria Sheridan; great-nieces and great-nephews, Marisa Marna (Vinchenzo), Christian, Joshua, Emmanuel, Alethia Masters, Christian and Chloe Wilson, Stephanie Silfee and Joseph Bender.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents, brothers-in-law James Masters and George Heppler; sister-in-Law Ann Heppler; brother-in-law Robert Sheridan; niece Sandra Salz; mother- and father-in-law John and Claire Sheridan.
The viewing will be Wednesday morning from 8-9 a.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore, as per Lou’s wishes.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in Dunmore Cemetery.
