Margaret Dee Obituary

Margaret J. Nardozzi Dee, RN, 67, of Dunmore, died in the afternoon of Aug. 20 at St. Mary’s Villa, Elmhurst.
Known as Peggy to all, she was born in Scranton and was the daughter of the late Salvatore J. Nardozzi Sr. and Mary Ann Cicero Nardozzi, R.N. She was a graduate of St. Anthony of Padua Grammar School and Dunmore Central Catholic High School. She also graduated from Keystone College where she became an LPN and the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing where she attained her RN. Before retirement, she worked as a nursing home inspector for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Her commitment to the highest standards in our area’s healthcare were second to none. She dedicated her life’s work to those in her care, first as a floor nurse, then as a director of nursing and finally as a state health inspector. Highest standards of quality and a spirit of compassion were the guidelines of her life. She had a paramount love of family and friends; and she is abidingly remembered as generous, loving and loyal by those who knew her even from her childhood. As a loving mother, she could be relied on for loving comfort, sound advice and her guiding intuition. As a devoted grandmother, she was diligent and proud in instilling the cultural traditions and familial customs for her progeny. For more than 50 years, Peggy could be found on a Friday night making pizza at Nardozzi’s in Dunmore — a family establishment founded by her father, Salvatore Sr., and currently owned by her loving and devoted son. As she endeavored to make good food, she also saw to it that no one she knew would ever go hungry; and donated countless meals over the years to those in need. Peggy loved to laugh and make people laugh; she could tell a story with grace and wit. Her friendly nature and empathy are well-remembered. She enjoyed a good crime show, a fast car and classic rock music. She left the world a better place than she found it; and the world is diminished by her absence.
Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Katherine Stefanelli and her husband, Marc, Clarks Summit; and a son, Michael Hayes and his wife, Virginia, Dunmore; a twin brother, Lawrence Nardozzi, M.Div., M.D.; and three grandchildren, Bella Hayes, William Oehler and Milania Stefanelli.
She was preceded in death by a brother, attorney Salvatore J. Nardozzi Jr.; and an infant brother, Christopher.
A visitation will be held Tuesday at SS. Francis and Clare Progressive Catholic Church, 98 Larch St., Scranton, from 10:30 a.m. until noon. A private Requiem Mass will follow, and funeral rites will be conducted by the Rev. Nardozzi and the Rev. William Mentz. Family and friends are welcome to attend the interment at 1:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
During the current pandemic, all those attending are required to maintain proper social distance without direct contact and are required to wear a mask immediately upon entering the church and at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
