Margaret "Margie" Brown Obituary

Margaret "Margie" Margotta Brown, 89, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday. She and her loving husband, Robert G. "Buzz" Brown, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary last Oct. 28.

Born in Dunmore on Oct. 16, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James Vincent and Grace Helen Martinelli Margotta. Margie had a long and happy life in Dunmore though she also enjoyed traveling the world. A 1949 graduate of Dunmore High School and a 1953 graduate of Marywood College, Margie was educated as a teacher and spent her married life as a homemaker. She was an active member of the Century Club of Scranton and a bridge player at the Scranton JCC, earning her lifetime master's in bridge in April of 2009.

One of her biggest pleasures was to attend evening Monday Mass at St. Ann's Monastery although she was an active parishioner and lector at the former Christ the King Church, Dunmore, before its closing, and later at Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Scranton.

Margie is also survived by sons, Stephen and wife, Kathleen; and Robert "Buzz" and wife, Alyson; daughters, Kathryn "KG"; and Judith and husband, Bryan; granddaughters, Sarah and Colleen Brown; and her sister, Nan Zandarski; as well as a niece and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Beardell; and a brother, Joseph Margotta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Avenue and East Gibson Street, Scranton. All those attending are asked to observe COVID-19 protocols.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Pennsylvania Ambulance LLC, 1000 Dunham Drive, Dunmore, 18512.
