Margaret Simyan Russell, 96, died Monday at her residence. She and her late husband, Carl A. Russell, who died July 15, 2010, had been married for 63 years and lived in Dunmore all of their lives.
Born in Hollisterville, she was the daughter of the late Martin Metro and Anna Saylock Simyan and had attended Dunmore public schools. During her later years, she had resided at St. Mary's Villa Assisted Living Facility in Elmhurst. She had worked in the garment industry at Pembrook in Dunmore. Her fondest memories were of the two-week cruise that she and Carl took to the Holy Land.
She enjoyed crafts, flower gardening, cooking, baking, going for walks, reading, playing cards and especially praying the Rosary. She was a master bingo and poker player at St. Mary's Villa. She had been a former member of St. Casimir's Church in Dunmore and its Altar and Rosary Society. She had also belonged to St. Ann's Basilica and participated in the annual novena.
She was preceded in death by seven siblings, Anna Gadomski, Mary Yedinak, John Simyan, Helen Wojciechowski, Pauline Dean, Nicholas Simyan and Irene Cherinka; godsons, Jack Huchenski and George Yedinak.
She is survived by her godchild and niece, Mary Ann Houser; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The family would like to thank St. Mary's Villa Assisted Living staff, aides and caregivers for her wonderful care. They were family to Margie.
