Mary Elizabeth Diehl Howells, 96, of West Scranton went home to be with the Lord Friday morning while in the care of Riverside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and Compassionate Care Hospice.
Born in Hazleton, Pa., Mary was the daughter of the late John & Elizabeth Diehl. She was the widow of Robert Howells who died in Oct. 1973.
She was a member of St. Anns' Basilica church and a Passionate Associate. She graduated from Hazleton Sr. High School. Before retiring she was employed at Jacobson Hat Co. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
She loved to travel and visit the local casinos. She was a member of Roundwood Seniors, West Side Senior Center and Ladies of the Basilica.
Surviving are a son, Robert of Orlando Fl, a daughter, Karen Mecca of Scranton. A sister, Frances Diehl, Hazelton. Nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, John Diehl, Hazelton and C. Lawrence Diehl, Roselle, NJ and 2 sisters, Anna Mace, State College, Pa and Margaret Jeziorski, Sommerville, NJ.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 11:00am at St. Ann Basilica, 1250 St. Ann St., Scranton.
Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Friends may call Tuesday morning from 9:30am until 10:30am at Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave. Scranton, Carl J. Savino, Jr., supervisor.
