Mary A. Cianci, 92, Dunmore, died Friday at St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst. In 2014 her beloved husband of 59 years, Pasquale “Patsy” Cianci, preceded her in death.
Born in Pittston, Mary was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Borzellino Azzarelli. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School Class of 1951, and was a lifelong member of SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish in Dunmore.
Mary was at her core a caretaker, of people and of traditions. Her family has many happy memories of loud Sunday dinners and holidays, especially big Italian Christmas Eve dinners in the family home on Hill Street. She was a great cook and an excellent baker. Her Italian cookies and cakes were the best and she always had a stash in the freezer when someone stopped by. If Mary knew you liked a certain food or treat, she nearly always had it ready when she saw you, made with love in her kitchen. Mary was the last of her eight siblings and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her family wishes to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Villa Residence and Skilled Nursing Facility for their loving care of Mary, which truly enhanced her life in her final years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Cianci, Warminster, PA and Angela Seibert and her husband Mark, Dunmore, four grandchildren, Talia LaFond and husband Kelvin, Camille Bisignaro and husband Patrick, Michael Wood and wife Judith, and Lucy Seibert, eleven great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Orene Azzarelli, Clarks Summit and a brother-in-law Joseph Pinto Sr., Hamlin and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Jennie Notari, Rose Acquisto and Ann Pinto, three brothers, Vincent, Francis, and Sam Azzarelli, as well as two infant brothers.
The funeral will be Saturday with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street in Dunmore. All those attending please go directly to the church. Interment will take place at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow.
Friends may call Friday from 4PM-6PM at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore.
In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family requests donations be made to Outreach Center for Community Resources, 431 N. 7th Avenue, Scranton, 18503 or to the donor’s favorite charity.
