Mary Ada Campagna Obituary

Mary Ada Campagna formerly Mary Ada Borer of West Pittston passed away peacefully Tuesday morning with family by her side at Glenmaura Senior Living in Moosic Pa.

Born in Luzerne County daughter of the late Edward Borer and Jean Robertson Borer, Mary Ada was one of seven children. She was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph Campagna. They would have celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary this year. In addition to her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her siblings, Lenore Borer Rickaby, Edward Borer Jr (Teddy,) Malcom Borer, William Borer, Jean Borer Roberts McDonell and Robert Borer Finch.

Mary Ada attended Scranton Technical High School. After graduating in 1949, she was an Enlisted Airman First Class in the United States Air Force 1951-1952 and served both as a Parachute Rigger and later as a Recruiter. She was Honorably Discharged 1952. Mary Ada owned and operated a restaurant in Moscow, Pa for several years in the 1970’s. She loved to cook and shared all her tips and secret recipes with her family who continue to do the same with all the generations that follow.

Prior to retirement she was employed as Medical Secretary. Post retirement she remained very active and was in her glory in a new role as a nanny for a family friends’ young child.

Mary Ada was a current and longtime member of the Scranton North Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Mary Ada’s hobbies included spending time with her grandchildren, solving crossword puzzles, challenging any and all to a game of Scrabble (which she nearly always won).  She loved to bird watch in their backyard and enjoyed tending to her flower bed. Mary Ada loved music, and her entire family has wonderful memories of her playing the piano when they were children. Mary Ada also had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She sang and acted in many school plays as a teenager and sang publicly as a young adult.  Hearing her harmonizing with her oldest children around the campfire was a treat.

Mary Ada was a kind, loving and generous woman. She was humble and never boasted, and she had a way of making everyone in her midst feel like they were special.

Most of all she was a dedicated and loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her, and she will be dearly missed by them all. In total she had 38 grandchildren, great grandchildren and great- great grandchildren. She was the best babysitter in the whole world to her grandchildren and over the years spent countless hours with many of them and missed them all when they were not nearby.

Surviving are her five children, Lauren Bunker and husband David of Jacksonville Fla; Marisa Litwinsky and life partner Al Pantuso Jr of Clarks Summit, Pa; Gina Rozell and husband Dave of Dallas Pa; Richard Ortman and wife Christine of Tyler Hill, Pa . and David Ortman of Daytona Beach Fla. Also surviving are her fourteen grandchildren: John, Adam and Ryan Litwinsky; Cassandra Rozell-Alba and husband David; Alexa Rozell-Newhart and husband James; Richard Ortman II, and wife Carolyn; Robert Ortman and wife Kathy; Tami Ortman; Ray Hollister Jr and wife Amber; Heidi Brown; Jessica Melovitz, Shannon Ortman, Alyssa Ortman, Justin Ortman and wife Paige. In addition, Mary Ada is also survived by eighteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
