Mary Ann Germano, 96, of Dunmore, died Wednesday at home. She was the wife of the late Michael J. Germano Jr., who died on October 3, 2002.
Born in Dunmore, Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Pietraface D’Andrea.
She was a member of SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish, Dunmore, and its altar and rosary society.
She was a 1947 graduate of Dunmore High School.
Mary Ann was an active member of the Dunmore Senior Center, where she participated in Pilates, yoga, and Tai Chi until the age of 90 when she stopped driving. Mary Ann had her hair done every Friday during her time there at the Kathy Pope Salon. She also enjoyed dancing, word searches and crossword puzzles. She was an adventurous spirit and had been known to spend her time in the skies, diving out of planes and riding in hot air balloons. She was a member of the Emanon Club with her sisters.
Mary Ann, along with her husband, travelled to 26 countries together, some of which Michael served in while in the military.
Surviving are two sons, Michael J. Germano Ⅲ, Dunmore, along with companion Barbara C. Mika, and Brian M. Germano along with his wife Christina of Endicott, NY; a daughter Renee Sleboda of Scranton; grandchildren Michael IV, Nick, Virginia, Brian, Justan, Jordan, Roy, Mary, Michael and Danny, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by four sisters: Lucy Mastri, Carmella Hollenbach, Rose Martarano and Ann Marie Gretzula; two brothers, John and Nick D’Andrea; her beloved daughter-in-law, Blanche Germano and her grandson, Mark Sleboda.
The family would like to send their heartfelt thanks to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dr. Jared Hill of Geisinger, Traditional Home Health, and her number one caregiver, Tom Welhoelter, for their care, compassion and support.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30am in Saint Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave, Scranton. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
Family and friends may call Monday at The Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, from 5-7pm.
