Mary Torcasso, 98, of Dunmore, passed away Monday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore. Her husband, the late Louis T., passed away on Feb. 17, 2009. The couple had been married for 45 years.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Vincenza Guercio Guimento and was a 1941 graduate of Dunmore High School. She was a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore and, prior to retirement, she worked as a bookbinder in Kearny, New Jersey, where she befriended people from all over the world.
Mary enjoyed shopping, reading, gardening and trips to the casino. She had a great sense of fashion and kept her home meticulous. She was a wonderful wife and caretaker to her husband, Louis, especially during his time of illness. She was a loving and generous aunt and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Surviving are nieces, Alicia Guimento Kollar and husband, George, Dunmore; Joanne Rogan, Carbondale; and Janice Guimento, Dunmore; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by sisters, infant Mary and Lucy Guimento; brothers, infant Charles, John, Rosar, Cataldo, Salvatore and Angelo Guimento.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street in Dunmore. Interment, Dunmore Cemetery.
There are no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
