Mary Clare Higgins, 76, of Dunmore, passed away Wednesday morning surrounded by her family. Her husband was the late James M. Higgins whom died December 10, 2019. They had been married for 49 years.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Nolan Foley, and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Dunmore. Prior to retirement, she had worked for the former Mercy Hospital in Scranton as a registered nurse for over thirty years.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt whose greatest passion was spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandchildren and great granddaughter. She truly loved beach vacations with her larger-than-life family.
Surviving are her children, Shannon Hopkins and husband Brad of South Abington Township; Jamie Higgins and wife Michelle of Jessup; Dan Higgins of Dunmore; and Tim Higgins and wife Cheryl of Avoca; grandchildren, Michael Higgins and his wife Alexandra of Throop; Drew of Jessup; and Timmy, Brennan, Colin, and Bodie of Avoca; a great granddaughter, Emma Higgins of Throop; sisters, Judy Mawn of Dunmore and Annie Yauch and her husband John of Verona, NJ; brothers, Jack Foley and his wife Sarah and James Foley and his wife Mary, all of Factoryville; Jerome Foley of Pocono Pines; and Joseph Foley of Scranton; a sister in law Nancy Foley of Havertown; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers Thomas and Timothy Foley and a brother-in-law Frank Mawn.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30AM in the St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Chestnut St., Dunmore. Internment , Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4PM-7PM.All those friends attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church Tuesday morning.
