Maryann Summa, Dunmore, died Sunday morning in the Green Ridge Care Center in Scranton on her 85th birthday. She and her husband Angelo Summa have been married 56 years.
Born in Dunmore, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Elizabeth Ferrone Azzarelli and had been a devoted lifelong member of SS. Anthony & Rocco Parish in Dunmore. Maryann was a graduate of both Dunmore High School Class of 1957 and Marywood College Class of 1961. After graduation she worked as an intern for Medical Technologist at Geisinger in Danville and went on to work in the Lab at the former Mercy Hospital in Scranton, now Regional Hospital of Scranton, for over 55 years. During her time there she volunteered along with her husband Angelo, as a Eucharistic Minister for 27 years.
Maryann will be remembered a s a kind and generous person who loved her family and friends. She greatly enjoyed traveling especially yearly trips to Bethany Beach in Delaware and visiting casinos.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Rose Chupko and Lucille Mecca and her brother Liberto (Birdie) Azzarelli.
Her family wishes to thank the amazing staff of nurses and aides at Green Ridge Care Center for the compassion and care provided to Maryann.
The funeral will be Friday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore with Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 303 Smith St., Dunmore. Interment to follow in the Dunmore Cemetery.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday morning in the funeral home from 9:00 to 10:30 AM.
