Monica Lynn Horvath (DiCarlo), of Scranton, PA, passed away on August 8, 2023 at home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. She was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, mother, and friend. Monica was born in Staten Island, NY and later moved to Lake Ariel, where she graduated from Wallenpaupack Area High School. Monica was a Johnson College graduate where she went on to work as a Radiology Technician. Later, she taught religion and became a preschool aide at St. Mary of Mount Carmel School. Most recently, Monica was employed as a secretary at BreatheEasy Therapy Services.
Monica was remembered for her kind and selfless nature, her compassionate heart, and her positive attitude. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, tanning by her pool, and boating on Lake Wallenpaupack. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, always listening to Christmas music. She was passionate about helping others, bringing everyone together, and always welcoming everyone into her home. Monica leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and a contagious smile that touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Monica is survived by her loving parents, Karen and Peter DiCarlo; her husband; William Horvath; their children, Natalie and Nicholas Horvath; her sisters/best friends, Tina DiCarlo, Darlene Torres, and Jaclyn Vaow; her brothers, Noah and Anthony DiCarlo; her brothers-in-law, Richie Vaow and John Torres; and nieces and nephews. Monica was preceded in death by her Maternal Grandparents, Jack and Mickey Gray; her Paternal Grandparents, Peter and Rose DiCarlo; and her aunts and uncles.
Friends may pay their respects on Thursday, August 10th from 4-6 PM at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in her honor on Friday, August 11th at 9:30AM in the Cathedral of Saint Peter, 315 Wyoming Avenue in Scranton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the "Natalie and Nicholas' Fund" and can be delivered or mailed c/o the funeral home at 318 East Drinker Street Dunmore PA 18512.
