Nancy K. Gillette, R.N., 77, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully after a brief illness Monday afternoon at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, while surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Rocco Gillette, who passed away in August 1999.
Born in North Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marie (Baskerville) Wagner. She was a 1964 graduate of Holy Rosary High School and in 1967 received her nursing degree from the Scranton State Hospital School of Nursing (SSHSN). Upon graduation she practiced as a registered nurse in various departments at Moses Taylor Hospital. Whether it was helping family members or community organizations, she was giving and gracious, always putting others first. Nancy served in various volunteer roles over the years, including Girl Scout troop leader, St. Rocco’s CCD director, DEC PTA president, founding member of the DHS Music Boosters, board member of the SSHSN Alumni Association, former member of the Jr. Century Club of Scranton, member of the Ss. Anthony and Rocco Altar and Rosary Society and spent many years making “Irish Pizza” at St. Rocco’s Annual festival.
After retirement, she spent her time helping to raise her six grandchildren, spoiling her dogs (Roxie, Roo and Bingo), and volunteering at the Moses Taylor Hospital NICU. In her spare time Nancy enjoyed cooking, entertaining, traveling, reading and playing online games, especially Wheel of Fortune. What she enjoyed most was caring for and spending time with those she loved, especially her grandchildren and dogs. As a loving and welcoming person her door was always open, allowing her to act as a mother to all.
She is survived by daughters, Margo Balderson, Taylor; Marie Bonavoglia and husband, Vince; Patti Spady and husband, Damon; and Laura Mills and husband, David, all of Dunmore; grandchildren, Alexa and Madison Aulisio, Taylor; Nina, Mia and Vinny Bonavoglia, and Annabelle Mills, all of Dunmore; a brother, Bill Wagner and wife, Jacquie, Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Bernadette Wagner, Scranton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Dennis Wagner; son-in-law, Ed Balderson; and various other family members.
The funeral will be Monday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rocco’s Church, Kurtz Street, Dunmore. Interment, Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
