Naomi Boylan Harris, 88, of Scranton, passed away at home on Sunday evening surrounded by family. She was the widow of the late William Harris.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Frank and Victoria Pane Malia and was a graduate of the former Central High School, Scranton. Prior to retirement, she was the Senior Community Center director and was employed by the county’s Area Agency on Aging.
Naomi was a devoted mother and grandmother. Known in her community for many years of dedication to organizing and leading passion projects spanning from political to charitable. She began her career as a practical nurse in the United States Navy, of which she was a proud veteran. Later in life Naomi carried the same pride in her work with Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging. An avid reader, history buff, talented cook, with quick wit and great sense of style, her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
Surviving are sons, Thomas Boylan and his wife, Lisa Tonetti Boylan; and P.J. Boylan, all of Dunmore; daughters, Marti Boylan Barenski and husband, Alan, Goulsboro; and Vickie Clarke and husband, Jonathan, North Carolina; grandchildren, Kristy, Mollie and Thomas Boylan; and members of the Ginader family.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Maggie Boylan; and a sister, Eleanore Ginader.
A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Chestnut Street, Dunmore. Interment, St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
Family and friends may visit from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Women’s Resource Center, 620 Madison Ave., Scranton, PA 18510.
