Nicholas “Nick” A. DeSando, Dunmore, passed away peacefully on November 24th. He was the beloved son of the late Nicholas DeSando and Eleanor Sangiuliano DeSando. Nick shared a devoted marriage with his wife, Concetta DeRoma, whose love and companionship were the cornerstone of his life for 62 years.
Nicholas attended Dunmore schools before beginning a career of dedicated service with the Dunmore Department of Public Works, where he worked faithfully for 42 years and where his hard work and commitment left a lasting mark on the town he called home. Beyond his career, he was a proud member of the Elite Social Club in Dunmore and a Dunmore Schools crossing guard for a decade, serving the community he loved. Nick was also a faithful parishioner of Saint Anthony and Rocco Parish, where his presence and devotion were deeply valued.
Surviving are daughter Sharon Rosar and husband, Albie; daughter Laura Wiltshire and partner, Richard Grudeski; son Nicholas A. DeSando Jr. and wife, Kristen; granddaughter Sarah Di Pietro and husband, Carmen; grandsons Jamie Rosar and Nicholas and Nathan DeSando; and granddaughter Emily Wiltshire, all of Dunmore. Also surviving are his brother Francis DeSando, Dunmore: and brother-in-law Nicholas DeRoma, Dickson City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Eleanor DeSando, as well as father and mother-in-law, Anthony and Sarah DeRoma.
There was nothing Nick loved more than his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed every holiday, every event for his grandchildren, every visit from his family, or excuse to see them. He was fully himself- funny, silly, and whole when he was surrounded by his children and five grandchildren. He was immensely proud of his family, and always was sure to tell everyone he knew. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outside sitting in the sun.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Geisinger Community Medical Center for their care and compassion during this time. They would also like to thank Dr. Michael Alocci for his continued care and guidance for all these years.
The funeral will be Monday with Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street in Dunmore. All those attending please go directly to the church. Interment will take place at Dunmore Cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 3PM-5PM at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc. 318 East Drinker Street in Dunmore.
