Noreen Haines Obituary

Noreen L. Haines, 91, of Tunkhannock, Lake Carey, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026, at Hospice of Sacred Heart. She is preceded in death by her husband William A. Haines, in 1977.

Born on August 4, 1934, in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Clarence and Hannah (Lynott) Mattern.

She was a 1952 graduate of South Scranton Catholic High School. Shortly after, she married the love of her life William A. Haines on April 17, 1953.

She spent many years as a devoted and loving Housewife and Mother, cultivating a life full of family and friends that she cherished dearly. Her friends involved in her life were equally important to her family.

She spent many years raising her beloved family, traveling, and living a full life with her friends and family. She enjoyed her many trips out west with Glenn and Marilyn Shupp.

Noreen’s greatest joy, however, was her family. She cherished moments spent with loved ones and took immense pride in supporting her children and grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Linnette Knight and husband Dave, Heidi Whitaker and husband Chad, Jennifer Jumper and husband Aaron, Billy Haines and wife Amber, Jason Bartsch and wife Jill, Michael Bartsch and Sara Matthews, and Robert Bartsch.

In addition to her grandchildren, she is survived by her great grandchildren, Ein Bartsch, William Steidinger, Julian Knight, Ella Jumper, Alex Haines, Liam Haines, Aleah Kircher, Kseniya Loboda, and soon to arrive, baby boy Jace Bartsch.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her four children, son William E. Haines, daughters Patricia Bartsch, Eileen Fanus, and Donna Haines. Surviving spouses of the deceased include Deanna Haines, wife of William E. Haines; Dennis Bartsch, husband of Patricia Bartsch; and Robert Fanus, husband of Eileen Fanus.

Special to her heart was Traci Steidinger, her caretaker and close friend, and Traci’s husband, Paul Steidinger.

A private funeral ceremony will be held at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.
