Paul Theodore Roverts, 78, of Jefferson Township, died Tuesday night in the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton with his wife of 53 years, Clare (formerly, Catracchia), at his side.
Son of the late Theodore and Mary Roverts, he was born in Waubach, in the province of Limburg, Holland, where they lived until immigrating to the United States when he was 10 years old. After graduating from Dunmore High School in 1966, he served in the U.S. Air Force where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was then employed at MacGregor Iron and later at Tobyhanna Army Depot, from where he retired.
Paul was passionate about cars, especially his Ford Ranchero, and he was an exercise fanatic, even walking miles a day well into retirement. He was meticulous about landscaping and tinkering with various projects around the house. He also loved music and dancing and rarely missed a Penn State or Washington Redskins football game.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Stephanie Tolerico and husband Steve, and their children Gabrielle and Stefan of Clarks Summit, and Melissa Harke and husband Andrew and their children Oliver and Violet of Potomac, MD; his sister Marlene West and husband Kirk of Tucson, AZ.
The funeral will be Tuesday with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at noon in St. Lucy’s Church, 949 Scranton St., West Scranton.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions in Paul’s memory be made to the St. Joseph’s Center Foundation, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509; or to the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center Welfare Fund, 401Penn Ave., Scranton, PA 18503.
