Peter A. Sabia, 93, of Dunmore, passed away peacefully on Saturday, surrounded by his beloved family at home.
Born and raised in Dunmore, Pete was the son of the late Donato Sabia and Julia DeNaples Sabia. A proud graduate of Dunmore High School’s Class of 1948, he was also a member of SS. Anthony and Rocco Parish in Dunmore. Pete answered the call to serve his country as a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
An entrepreneur at heart, Pete launched his first business at just 17 years old. His lifelong commitment to hard work led him to establish several successful enterprises, including Pete’s Garage, Valley Dodge Truck Center, and P&D Leasing. He was a director emeritus of Community Bank, NA, and served on the Dunmore Zoning Board. Even at 93, Pete remained actively involved in his businesses, embodying a tireless spirit and unwavering dedication.
Pete’s life was defined by his generosity, unshakable work ethic, and devotion to his family. He found great fulfillment in spending time with his children and grandchildren, offering them his unconditional love, support, and guidance.
He is survived by his four children: Judi Cimino and husband AJ, of Dunmore; Maria McGraw and husband Michael, of Carbondale; Peter Sabia, Jr. and wife Margherita, of Dunmore; and Lisa Calciano and husband Jimmy, of Elmhurst. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Anthony Cimino, Peter Cimino, Matthew McGraw, Angelo Calciano, Gianna Calciano, James Calciano, Julia McGraw, Peter Sabia III, Vito Sabia, Anthony Sabia, and Nicholas Calciano; and his brother, Genaro Sabia; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann “Mitzi” Sabia; his sisters, Frances Sacco and Bertha Sartor; and his brother, Dominick Sabia.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli for his devoted care, as well as Dr. Henry Yeager, Dr. Samir Pancholy, Dr. Haitham Abughnia, and Dr. Louis DeNaples.
Special thanks are extended to his caregivers, Priscilla, Debbie, and Henry, for their kindness and compassion.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Dunmore by Rev. David P. Cappelloni. Interment followed in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Center, Saint Francis of Assisi Kitchen or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Peter’s memory.
Casketbearers were his grandsons, Anthony Cimino, Peter Cimino, Matthew McGraw, Angelo Calciano, James Calciano, Peter Sabia III, Vito Sabia, Anthony Sabia, and Nicholas Calciano.
