Philip Nehme Obituary

Philip Nehme, 95, of Taylor, passed away at home March 17. His wife of 70 years, Rose Maciborski Nehme, died August 2020.

Born in Scranton to the late Joseph and Bedwea Farah Nehme, he grew up on Ninth Street at a time when neighbors were also family. At the age of 12 he began his career as a butcher at Iacobino's Market. He worked for Acme Markets for 42 years and retired at age 90 from Bill's Market in Daleville.

Phil was a United States Navy veteran. He was a member of Wyoming War Veterans Association, Wyoming, Pa., VFW Post 396 and served as its post commander.

He was a lifelong member of St. Ann's Maronite Church and its Holy Name Society.

Surviving are his children, Philip Nehme Jr. and wife, Lynda, Smithfield, Va.; Michaelene Vakay and husband, Ron, Dalton; Rosanne Nehme, Old Forge; and Stephen Nehme and partner, Deb Boylan, Scranton; grandchildren, Joseph Nehme and wife, Jenny; Elizabeth Saylor and husband, Toby; Kathryn Donaldson and husband, Jefferson; Nicholas Vakay, Ian Vakay; Joshua Snodgrass and wife, Raven; Sara Snodgrass, Kalli Snodgrass; Sam Snodgrass and wife, Jocelyn; Jacob Nehme and Zachary Nehme; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Owen Nehme, Connor Buhrman, Hazel and Mason Donaldson, and Wren Mae Snodgrass.

He was also preceded in death his brothers, Morris, Albert, John, James and Paul; and sisters, Freda Taroli and Rose Zaydon.

The funeral will be Friday from the Savino Traditional Funerals and Cremation Care, 157 S. Main Ave. in West Scranton, Carl J. Savino Jr., supervisor, with Mass at St. Ann Maronite Church, 1320 Price St., Scranton, at 10 a.m., to be celebrated by the Rev. Antoun Youssef, pastor. Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery, West Scranton.

Family and friends may call Thursday in the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be an incense service held at 6:30.
