Philip Harold May, 93, of Pompano Beach, Fla., and formerly of Scranton, died early Monday at Imperial Point Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He is survived by his wife, the former Harriet Sharon Kreisler.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Louis and Gussie Mandel May, at the tender age of 13 while World War II was raging, Phil, as he was known to his friends, went off to a religious high school in Brooklyn with his best friend, Saul Pachter. Phil was dearly beloved by his family and friends. He had the biggest of hearts and a boundless generosity.
Phil and Harriet married in 1949 and in August they would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary. For Phil, family was the beginning, the middle and the end and he was blessed with three children, Jody (May) Berg, who predeceased him; Cindy (May) Levine and Laurence May; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Dad, granddad and great-granddad, we miss you, rest in peace and we are blessed by our memories of you.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at noon in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery by Rabbi Alex Hecht.
Shiva will be at the home of Cindy Levine in Allentown, Pa.
