Ralph Patrick DelPrete, 90, of Scranton, and resident of The Gino J. Merli Veteran’s Center where he had volunteered for many years earlier in his life, passed away Monday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He and his loving wife, the former Anna Tarantini, just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on September 5th.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Carl and Antoinette DeStefano DelPrete. Ralph was an alumnus of Scranton Central High School and Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist for much of his life, first in the United States Army as a pharmacist in Germany for 2 years and then at Costa Drugs and DelPrete Pharmacy. He was a member of UNICO Scranton, The Victor Alferi club and The Holy Name Society at St. Lucy’s where he was extremely active. Ralph was a true gentleman who put the needs of others before his own.
Ralph is survived by a son Carl and wife Lynn, son Michael and wife Maria, and a daughter Ann and husband Kevin. Also surviving are several grandchildren; Dominique Sheeran and husband John, Alexandria Rocchi and husband Ryan, Danielle Healey and husband Jacke, Alyssa Crimmel and husband Jeremy, Kevin Grebeck and wife Stacy, Michael DelPrete and wife Sara, Matthew Grebeck, a brother Carl and wife Angela, as well as 10 great grandchildren and a niece and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 11am at St. Lucy’s Church in West Scranton. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 until time of mass. Burial will take place at Cathedral Cemetery at a later date.
