Ralph D. Schmidt, 95, of Moosic, formerly of Scranton, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday morning. He is survived by his wife, the former Laura Riccardo, with whom he shared 73 years of marriage.
Born in Scranton, Ralph was the son of the late Ernest and Martha Van Luvender Schmidt. He was a member of SS Anthony & Rocco Parish in Dunmore and a graduate of Scranton Technical High School.
Ralph was a quiet and humble man who deeply loved his family and cherished his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Gary and wife Lu Ann of Kingwood, Texas; Gregory and wife Donna of Raleigh, NC; Glenn and wife Dahnielle of Chester Springs, PA; and Geoffrey and wife Dena of Moscow. He is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer Schmidt, Kathryn Wright and husband Alphie, Matthew Schmidt and wife Sarah Katherine, Eric Schmidt and husband Ryne Martinez, Ian, Addison, Payton, and Lucas Schmidt, as well as great-grandchildren Michael, Ethan, and Violet Schmidt and Isaiah Tucker, Benjamin, and Samuel Wright. He leaves behind sisters-in-law Ida Sciabarasi and husband Vincent, Caldwell, NJ and Grace Coggi, Syracuse, NY, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ralph was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Middlekauf and husband Edward.
The family would like to thank Drs. Michael Alocci, Chris Peters, and Michael O’Donnell as well as the staff at Glenmaura Senior Living for their outstanding care and compassion.
The funeral will take place on Saturday from the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc. at 318 E. Drinker St. in Dunmore, followed by a 9:30 AM Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church on Smith St. in Dunmore.
Interment will be at Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst. Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 5 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
