Ray Alan Strohl, 77, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Ray is survived by his wife, Marsha Strohl (Kingston, PA); his brother, Arthur (Valerie) Strohl of Maryland; his daughter, Mandy (Ronald) Schramm of Kentucky; his daughter, Adrianne (Robert) Smith of Missouri; and his son, Seth (Ashley) Strohl of New Jersey, along with several loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Ray was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Archer of New Jersey, and his father and mother, S. Ralph and Sara Strohl of Scranton, PA.
Ray was born in Scranton, PA, on August 20, 1946. He graduated from Solebury School in New Hope, PA, where he was a member of the wrestling team. Ray went on to graduate with his Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering from St. Louis University. He then completed his Master's in Physics and Engineering Education from University of Scranton.
Ray was a jack of all trades and held numerous positions across various industries. He was always interested in learning new skills and exploring new careers. Some of the brightest highlights of his career include assisting in running Nay Aug Amusement Park, which was owned by his father and uncle. He also served as a substitute Physics Teacher in Scranton and worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Lackawanna County for a short period of time. Ray was also the proud owner of Strohl Associates, where he specialized in selling securities, life insurance, and health insurance.
During his youth, Ray was an avid second-generation Eagle Scout, passing his passion onto his son, Seth. He later became an assistant scoutmaster for Troop 485 in Laflin, PA. He was a huge fan of Penn State Football, the Dallas Cowboys, Villanova Basketball, and a devoted St. Louis Blues and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins fan. His passion for sports, his family, and his grandchildren will be missed by all.
A graveside service will be held at Dunmore Cemetery on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 10:00 AM. Following the burial, the family will sit shiva from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday and from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Please reach out to a family member for more information.
