Richard S. Gogas, 78, died Wednesday evening in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore. His wife Michele had died in 2011.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Stanley and Ruth Basteed Gogas, he attended Scranton schools and had worked at McCarthy Tire in Scranton.
Rich loved spending his time outdoors especially fishing and hunting. His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Geisinger-Community Medical Center in Scranton for the care and compassion shown to him and them.
Surviving are five daughters, Lucinda Teague, Scranton, Lynda Gogas, Connecticut, Christine DeFuria, Pittston, Donna Yearing, Scranton, and Michelle Gogas, Blakely, two sons, Richard Gogas, North Carolina and Christopher Gogas, Kentucky, four stepchildren, a grandson Christopher Mercadente with whom he resided as well as 13 other grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Gogas, and four siblings.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1PM at Savino Traditional Funerals & Cremation Care 157 S. Main Ave. West Scranton, Carl J. Savino, Jr supervisor. Visitation will be held Tuesday prior to the service from 11AM -1PM. Interment is private.
