Richard M. Lovenwirth

Richard Morton Lovenwirth, 88, of Scranton, Pennsylvania, passed away on April 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Martin and Elizabeth (Grossman) Lovenwirth and the beloved husband of the late Roberta Lovenwirth.

Richard was a proud alumnus of Temple University and Villanova Law School. He served his country honorably in the United States Armed Forces before embarking on a distinguished legal career. He worked as an attorney and later served as a Public Utilities Judge for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

A devoted member of the Jewish community, Richard was actively involved with Congregations Beth Shalom, Machzikeh Hadas, and Ohev Zedek. He was known for his deep commitment to justice, his faith, and his unwavering dedication to helping others.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta; his brother Edmund Lovenwirth, sister-in-law Myra, and their child Karen (Lovenwirth) Levy; and his daughter Sallie Lovenwirth Benjunas and son-in-law Leonard Benjunas.

He is survived by his son, Samuel Lovenwirth, and daughter-in-law Jodi (Arnovitz); grandchildren Benjamin Lovenwirth and his wife Jessica, Hannah Lovenwirth, and Adam Lovenwirth; niece Michele (Lovenwirth) Berman, her husband Jack, and their family. He is also survived by his stepchildren Bruce Markowitz and his wife Esther, Hal Markowitz and his wife Tiffany (Griffiths), David Markowitz, and their children and grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Dalton Jewish Cemetery on Tuesday, April 15, at 1:00 p.m., with services by Rabbi Mordechai Fine. Friends will be received during shiva hours at Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Announcement to follow.
