Richard J. Brust Obituary

Richard J. Brust, 80, of Scranton, passed away on Tuesday evening at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center in Scranton. Surviving is his wife, the former Marie Magnotta. The couple was married for 59 years.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Theresa Madl Brust. He was a member of St. Lucy’s Church and its Holy Name Society, and he was a graduate of the former Cathedral High School’s Class of 1961 and the University of Scranton.  Prior to retirement, he worked in the maintenance department at the former Bishop Hannan High School in Scranton. He was also previously a general contractor and a master locksmith.

Richard was known to be a history buff, an engaging conversationalist, always committed to his family, and always willing to lend his handyman services to friends and family. He was very tall in stature but quiet, gentle, and patient in his manner of relating. He played Fleetwood Mac and Neil Diamond albums loud enough for his neighbors to hear, and he did not worry about others' opinions about that. He lived a good life and enjoyed the food and people and duct tape that came with it.

Also surviving are daughters, Nadine Novak and husband David of Scranton; Dr. Ann Judge and husband John of Annapolis, MD; and Melissa Daily and husband Doug of South Williamsport; a son Richard, Jr. and wife Joanne of Scranton; grandchildren Cassandra Pugh and husband Fran; Rebecca, Tony, and Maxwell Daily; Jack and Molly Judge; great-granddaughter Wynn Pugh; nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Fulrath and brothers, Joseph and Gerald Brust.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 19th  at 11 a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church, Scranton St., West Scranton.

Interment will be held at a later date at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that contributions in Richard’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org; St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509; or to Allied Services Skilled Nursing, 303 Smallacombe Dr., Scranton, PA 18508.
