Robert ‘Bob’ Lawrence McDermott, 74, of Jefferson Township, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025. Brother, uncle, teacher, coach, and friend – Bob impacted the lives of so many people and will be greatly missed.
Bob was born in Scranton, PA on January 14, 1951, to the late Patrick and Frances McDermott of Dunmore, PA. Bob was a graduate of Dunmore High School and went on to study at both York College and Marywood University.
Bob spent most of his career as an educator in the Dunmore School District, where he served as the high school librarian and head coach of the boys’ and girls’ tennis teams. Following his retirement, Bob could be found pursuing his passions of skiing (on the slopes of Elk Mountain, PA, and Stratton, VT), golfing, cheering on his favorite sports teams, watching tennis, traveling, and spending time with his incredible friends, family, and community of Moosic Lakes.
Bob is preceded in death by his sister Marguerite Miklus, his brother John Paul McDermott, and his nephew Joseph McDermott. He is survived by his brother Patrick McDermott, his sister and brother-in-law Trudy and George Phillips, his sister-in-law Alice McDermott, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Bob’s family and friends would like to thank the Regional Hospital of Scranton and Allied Services for their compassionate care.
